The Redwood Meadows Sustainability Committee is looking for volunteers to help celebrate Earth Day 2012 on Sunday, April 22. This will be the second annual event honouring Earth Day here in Redwood Meadows and it is shaping up to be another wonderful day loaded with activities, vendors, food, entertainment, etc. All volunteers will be entered in a draw to win some great prizes!
The Committee is looking for help in a number of areas listed below. Teens are encouraged to volunteer, particularly with projects and activities involving crafts and kids! Click HERE to view the Earth Day Poster. Click WIN to view the list of items to donate to Women In Need Calgary.
Looking for:
Experienced sewers – preferably with own sewing machine, to make simple recycled carry bags out of t-shirts. A pattern with instructions will be provided. Ideally we need up to 6 individuals to cover two shifts over the course of the event.
Café Food Service – 4 people (2 x 3 hour shifts) to work the concession serving food and beverages, cleaning up, etc.
Charity drop-off coordinator – one or two individuals to oversee the drop-off of goods destined for pick up by “Women in Need” charity in Calgary. Some heavy lifting required and ability to drive a truck with trailer.
Tin Can Gardens - a great volunteer opportunity for teens who love to get their hands mucky! Need four (2 x 2.5 hour shifts) to oversee this kids activity. No gardening experience required – you will be trained!
The ART of recycling – 2 teens or adults to help ART coordinator with craft projects. If you love ART (and recycling) this one is for you!
Set-Up and Take-Down – 2 people to help get tables, chairs, etc. ready for vendors, presentations … and also to help put it all away at the end of the day.
Outdoor Maze Activity – another great opportunity for teens, especially if you love the outdoors! We need 2-4 people to help design, set up and oversee this activity.
Carbon Footprint Calculation – calling all computer geeks, we know you’re out there! This position involves manning a station helping people work with a simple computer program. Answering some basic questions may also be required.
General Help – with every event, unforeseen tasks arise. It would be great to have a couple of people that we can call on to do this & that.
Please email sustainableredwood@gmail.com to let us know where you can help!
Also looking for the following donated items for activities (please drop off at Redwood House during Office Hours).
- t-shirts (great use for RMCA soccer t-shirts!)
- plastic yogourt containers (750mL or larger)
- 1 L Mason jars (no lids needed)
