Redwood Meadows Disc Golf Course: Family Fun Right in Our Backyard!

HISTORY

The Redwood Meadows Disc Golf Course was originally built/funded by the seniors in Redwood Meadows in 1995. The 9-hole course was revamped in 2010 and there are plans to add a back 9 in the near future. The disc used in disc golf is similar to a Frisbee. With a flick of the wrist you let the disc fly towards a basket (target).  The scoring is like regular golf – you try to complete the course in the fewest number of throws.  It is very inexpensive to get started (about $20/disc) and easy to learn.  In addition, it is a great way to get outside with your family and get some fresh air, exercise and have fun.

HOW TO FIND US

The easiest way to find the first tee box is to take the second entrance into the community, either from the north or south. Pass the fire hall and take a right on Manyhorses Dr, then your next left on Manyhorses Park.  Drive to the end of the cul-du-sac and park your vehicle.  You will see disc golf signage and a granite stone with a red arrow.  You are almost to the first tee box – follow the arrow – good luck!

OBJECT OF THE GAME

To play each hole in the fewest throws possible.  The player with the lowest total throws for the course wins.

GUIDELINES FOR PLAY

Each hole begins at the tee.  Subsequent throws are made from where the disc comes to rest (the lie).  The player who is furthest from the basket throws first.  The hole is completed when the disc is supported by the basket or chains.  Tee off order is determined by the players’ scores on the previous hole.  Lowest score tees-off first.

BASIC RULES

A run up and follow through are allowed unless the lie is within 10 meters of the basket.  Any shot within 10 meters of the basket requires that the player keep one foot anchored on the lie and the other foot no closer to the basket.  Respect the Course – Put garbage in proper receptacles.

COURTESY AND ETIQUETTE

Stand behind the player who is throwing until the throw is complete  -  Allow faster groups to play through when possible  -  Do not alter trees or obstacles  -   If a disc is stuck in a tree and out of reach, it is a 1-throw penalty  -  Have fun and enjoy!

SAFETY

Never throw when path users or players are within range.  Always give path users the right of way. Be aware of your surroundings and environment (and bears that like to fetch!).
